Dutch Dairy Day 2018

18th September 2018 the 6th Dutch Dairy Day took place at Kischentzi farm in Cherkasy Oblast. The event was started by welcome speech of Ms. Carolien Spaans, Agricultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine, Olena Alshanova, Deputy Director of the Department of Agrarian Policy and Agriculture of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Anna Lavrenyuk, Vice-President of Public Relations of the Association of Milk Producers, and owner of Kischentzi farm, Kees Huizinga.

Dutch Dairy Day 2018

During the event, Dutch experts in the dairy industry shared their knowledge on how to get a profitable and healthy cow. Demonstrated workshops for raising calves, linear evaluation of cows, benchmarking for the dairy farms and hold a seminar on milk quality, where everyone was able to discuss topical issues of dairy farming and get answers to the questions.

Huub Peek together with his partners in Ukraine - CZRS ( made a workshop on linear scoring and explained the difference in the recommendations for selecting bulls for individual cows based on linear scoring and variation in pedigree.

Eric Lievens (CRV)– in their workshop focused on a new breeding values, longevity, feed efficiency, high fat and protein, hoof health and fertility. In the Netherlands, experts look to the set of the legs and foot angle like everywhere else in the world. But they also look to the locomotion, the mobility of the cow. Another issue is longevity. In the Netherlands most of the cows passed 100 000 kg milk. Longevity says: resistance, willing to survive.

Cehave korm made a workshop on calf rearing. Dmytro Nechyporyk told the participants about products makes your calves grow the best and managerial actions are essential for a perfect start.

Ryan van Egmond (GD Animal Health) made a presentation on milk quality standards: the impact high cell counts on performance of the dairy chain. What is the reason of high cell count and its disadvantages.

Wim Wismans (DUDC) made a presentation and explained the participants of the DDD 2018 how important the benchmarking to the dairy farms and how the data analyse can help the farmers increase their profit.
